Youth Action for Success and Development (YASD) is proud to announce the extension of its flagship initiative the Local Green Innovation Champions (LOGIC) Project throughout 2025. With continued support from IM Swedish Development Partners, the extension marks a major milestone in our ongoing mission to equip communities with the tools they need to lead sustainable, climate-smart development.

Meeting the Moment: Why the Extension Matters

Malawi stands at a critical juncture. As the effects of climate change intensify bringing soil degradation, deforestation, and erratic weatherrural communities are under growing pressure. At the same time, youth unemployment and poverty remain pressing challenges, especially in areas where traditional livelihoods can no longer sustain growing populations.

The LOGIC Project responds directly to this reality by connecting practical green skills with local innovation. Through hands-on training, entrepreneurship support, and community outreach, LOGIC equips youth and women to become agents of environmental recovery and economic transformation.

What the Extension Covers

The 2025 extension will enable YASD to:

  • Train 120 new youth and women in agroecological farming, sustainable waste management, and eco-enterprise skills
  • Build leadership, business, and advocacy capacity among rightholders to influence change from the ground up
  • Support LOGIC Champions exceptional community leaders advancing local green solutions
  • Scale up green micro-enterprises and promote income-generating initiatives that align with environmental restoration
  • Introduce demonstration plots across four Traditional Authorities (T/As) to showcase sustainable practices
  • Strengthen partnerships that reinforce community resilience and long-term sustainability

This renewed phase builds on the successes of previous training cohorts in Lilongwe and Dedza districts, where local champions have transformed waste into market-ready products, established tree nurseries, and piloted clean energy solutions like the Changu Mbaula stove.

Advancing Vision 2063: From Ground-Up Innovation to National Progress

This extension aligns closely with Malawi’s Vision 2063, which prioritizes inclusive wealth creation, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment. By rooting innovation in the lived experiences of rural communities, the LOGIC Project offers a scalable model for building a climate-resilient, poverty-free Malawi one that is shaped not by top-down directives, but by community ownership and leadership.

As we move forward, we remain committed to expanding what works, amplifying local voices, and proving that sustainable transformation starts at the grassroots. Together with our partners and communities, we’re not only envisioning a better future we’re building it.
